Academician Javad Mostaghimi from University of Toronto Visits Baoshilai to Explore the Future of Advanced Coating Technologies Together

Professor Javad Mostaghimi, a highly reputed figure in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto and in the global scientific research area, recently visited Baoshilai with his profound academic team boasting rich scientific research experience. They held a unique academic and technical exchange event. As the leader of the Center for Advanced Coating Technologies (CACT), Academician Mostaghimi is not only renowned internationally for his outstanding academic achievements but also has made indelible contributions to scientific and technological progress through his in-depth exploration in fields such as thermal plasma and thermal spray coatings.


During the meeting, Professor Mostaghimi and Baoshilai's team engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest progress, challenges, and future development trends of advanced coating technologies. He emphasized that in the face of the new pattern of global scientific and technological competition, strengthening industry-university-research cooperation and promoting technological innovation are the keys. At the same time, he highly praised Baoshilai's achievements in technological innovation and market application and expressed his anticipation for more substantial cooperation between the two sides in the future to jointly promote the industrialization of advanced coating technologies.

Javad Mostaghimi is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto and also the director of the Center for Advanced Coating Technologies (CACT). He holds multiple professional qualifications and honorary titles, including a doctorate, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC), Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE), Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (FASME), Fellow of the American Society for Materials and Testing (FASM), Fellow of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (FCSME), Fellow of the Industrial Applications Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FEIC), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (FAS), Fellow of the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo (FIUPAC), and a member of the Thermal Spray Hall of Fame (TS-HoF).


Professor Mostaghimi's research fields encompass advanced coating technologies, thermal plasmas, thermal spray coatings, arcs, radio frequency inductively coupled plasmas, computational fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. He has in-depth research on thermal spray coatings, including super hydrophobic coatings, thermal barrier coatings, and corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant coatings. He has also conducted comprehensive research on the flow, temperature, and electromagnetic fields in arcs and radio frequency inductively coupled plasmas, and has carried out extensive simulation studies on droplet impact dynamics in thermal spray processes and automotive spraying as well as the design of new direct current and radio frequency plasma torches.


Professor Mostaghimi is a fellow of several professional societies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Society for Materials (ASM), the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (CSME), the Industrial Applications Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (EIC), the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), and the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo. He is also a member of the Qingdao International Academician Port. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the 75th Anniversary Medal of the ASME Heat Transfer Division, the Robert W. Angus Medal of the CSME, the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award, the Jules Stachiewicz Medal of the CSME, the NSERC Brockhouse Canada Prize, and the 2009 R&D Engineering Medal of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. In May 2019, Professor Mostaghimi was inducted into the ASM Thermal Spray Hall of Fame.


He also serves as a member of the editorial board of the journal "Plasma Chemistry and Plasma Processing" and the international review committee of the journal "Journal of Thermal Spray". He has given an academic report at the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University and was awarded the honorary certificate of the "Zhou Huijiu Forum Lifetime Achievement Award".
